How to zoom and scroll the timeline view

There are several ways to move and zoom the timeline. Each method has a particular use, as described below.

Horizontal Scroll Bar

At the top of the timeline is a grey bar with gold handles. These handles can be dragged manually to set the current visible range of time.

As the timeline zooms in, the scrollbar gets smaller relative to the width of the view. This is providing a birds eye view of the whole duration, with the areas between the gold handles indicating the section of time currently in view.

The scrollbar can be moved horizontally to scroll time back and forth without changing the zoom factor. Click and drag the center of the scrollbar (between the gold handles).

Mouse Shortcuts

Position the cursor anywhere over the Timeflow window to...

Zoom Scroll Wheel

Zoom in and out by holding Alt while scrolling the mouse wheel. This is always centered on the playhead, unless using Alt + Shift which zooms from the left edge of the view, or Alt + Control which zooms from the right of the view.

Pan Scroll Wheel

Scroll horizontally holding Shift while scrolling the mouse wheel.

Pan Drag

Move the view holding Alt while left-clicking and dragging anywhere in the time view. Movement is horizontal only in the track view, but unrestricted in the graph view.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Punch Zoom

Use the semicolon key ( ; ) to zoom in to the playhead position or zoom out to see the full duration. Each key press toggles between close up and full view. Press Shift + ; to zoom in more by a factor of 4. The default punch zoom amount can be customized in the preferences.

Rapid Zoom Use the plus ( + ) and minus ( - ) keys to zoom in or out incrementally centered on the playhead. Hold either key down momentarily to rapidly zoom in or out.

Fit Selected or Work Area Fit the selected tracks and keyframes in view by pressing Shift + F. If nothing is selected, then it frames the Work Area if enabled.
