Markers

Manage regions of time

PreviousKeyframe ValuesNextTimeline

Last updated 3 months ago

A marker defines a specific time on the timeline which can be used as a jump point and to define time ranges, which may optionally be displayed with labels and color tinting. Markers provide utility both while editing and at runtime.

The display of markers can be toggled on and off by clicking the Show Markers toggle button.

Press M on the keyboard to toggle markers on and off.

Use these toolbar buttons to step back to the previous marker, or go to the next one. This moves the playhead to the marker time and fits the time region into view.

Step through markers using the keyboard shortcut Alt + PageUp and Alt + PageDown

This drop down menu in the upper right corner of the Timeflow window can be used to navigate the timeline to zoom in to specific marker regions, or zoom out to view the full timeline.

Full Duration

Select this option to zoom out to view the whole timeline.

Punch Zoom In/Out

Use the semicolon key ; as a keyboard shortcut to toggle between a close-up view on the current time or to view the full duration. This makes it easy to zoom in to edit a detail and then zoom out to see the full timeline again.

Setting Markers

There are 4 ways to create markers directly in the Timeflow view.

Control + Click

Left-click in the top ruler bar while holding the Control key to set a new marker that the time clicked.

Keyboard shortcut

Press Control + M to add a new marker at the current time.

Context Menu

Right-click in the top ruler bar of the timeline to show the menu. Select Timeline > Add Marker at Current Time.

Marker Toggle

Hold Control while clicking on the Show Markers toggle button to add a marker at the current time (if a marker does not already exist).

Editing Markers

Markers can be edited in the info panel in the lower left. To select a marker, click on its triangle icon in the timeline. Only 1 marker can be selected and edited at a time, though see below for bulk editing shortcuts.

When a marker is selected, use the Goto button in the info panel to set the playhead to the marker time and frame the region in view. Use the previous ( < ) and next ( > ) buttons to select and jump to the previous or next marker.

Hold the Alt key click when toggling Show to hide or show all marker labels.

To remove a marker, press the minus ( - ) button next to the lock icon.

Locking Markers

To prevent markers from being changed or accidentally moved in the timeline, it is best to lock them after editing. Press the lock icon in the upper right corner of the info panel.

Hold the Alt key when clicking the lock icon to lock/unlock all markers at once. This can also be used on the Show toggle to show or hide all labels at once.

Jump to Marker

Double-click on any marker to jump to it. This moves the playhead to the marker time and zooms the view to the time range. Other useful shortcuts...

Marker keyboard shortcuts

Markers are automatically mapped in sequence to keyboard shortcuts which can be selected by pressing Alt + number key (1 to 9).

Zoom out to show everything Press Alt + 0 to show the full timeline and reset the playhead to 0.

Use the context menu to add makers in the Timeflow view, as described below.

Marker Related Keys

Markers provide a way to make quick bulk edit operations on keyframes within a section of time.

Reveal Related Keys

When a maker is selected, hold the Shift key to reveal the related keys (keyframes, tracks, and events) which are highlighted in green.

Before selecting related keys, it is best to deselect any other keyframes first, unless they are intentionally included.

Moving Related Keys

Continue to hold the shift key while dragging the marker to move it and all of the related keys. Or drag the related keys to leave the marker in place.

Select Related Keys

Additional operations can be performed by selecting all of the related keys. Double-click the marker while holding Shift to select the related keys, changing them from green to yellow highlight, indicating they are now selected.

Alternatively, right-click on a marker to show the context menu and use Select > Keys Related to Marker.

Additional features for managing markers are found in the Timeflow inspector. See for further information.

Each marker is shown with optional label and color tinting.
Locked markers appear the same as unlocked ones, but cannot be moved or edited until unlocked.
Notice the keyframes highlighted in green. These are related to the ROOM marker since they fall within its time range.
